Nicholas Kristof wrote his Opinion, The Silence That Meets the Rape of Palestinians in The New York Times on 11 May 2026. It vividly records male and female Palestinians describing brutal sexual abuse at the hands of Israel’s prison guards, soldiers, settlers and interrogators. It created a furore in Israel. The Netanyahu Government has accused The NYT of “antisemitic Blood libel” and has threatened to sue the paper and Kristof. The NYT management is firmly standing by Kristof’s piece as a verified account of the torture of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
