Horne Prize Essay 2016 – “My Travels with Australia Fair: A Fading Affair”

I submitted an Essay in late 2016 to the Horne Prize Competition. Titled” My Travels with Australia Fair: A Fading Affair”. Nothing came of the 4 weeks, 3000-word slog, which required deep introspection tinged at some junctures with much angst. Still, it provides a fairly accurate description of my life in Australia. I say “fairly” because, given the forum and my professional background, I was extremely circumspect about what I wrote and cautious about the terminology and its possible implications. Five years later, I have no such reservations. While observing obvious legal and other proprieties, I shall add bits and pieces to elaborate on some aspects of the original piece.
